Australian legal practice management

Run the whole firm from one file, not nine tabs.

Matters, trust accounting, statutory deadlines, document automation and a client portal — in a single platform built around the way Australian and New Zealand practices actually work, and the rules they are actually held to.

The platform

Five things a firm has to get right. All of them, in one place.

Most practices run matters in one system, money in another, compliance in a spreadsheet and the client relationship in an inbox. Every seam is somewhere work gets dropped. This closes them.

Run the work

Every matter, moving

Matter types you define, task workflows that fire on open, and a health signal that tells you which files have gone quiet before the client does.

  • Custom matter types & fields
  • Workflow & task templates
  • Matter health signals
  • Court diary & hearings
Get paid

Time in, money out

Capture time where the work happens, turn it into invoices without re-keying, and see unbilled WIP and ageing debtors on one screen.

Stay compliant

Built for the rules you actually work under

Not a generic CRM with an Australian flag on it. Costs disclosure thresholds, trust reconciliation, AML/CTF, VOI and CPD are first-class objects.

Look after clients

They can see where things are at

A portal that leads with what you need from them, not how many documents exist. Plus a bookable public page so new work arrives already in the system.

Documents merge from matter data, email files itself against the right matter, and an assistant that can see the file drafts the first version so you edit rather than start.

Matters & workflow

Open a matter, and the work opens with it

Choose a matter type and the checklist, key dates and statutory deadlines are already there. Conveyancing arrives with a Victorian residential purchase workflow — eight stages, twenty-three tasks — that you can edit, because your practice is not a template.

  • 1Matter types, custom fields and numbering you control
  • 2Deadline engine with AU/NZ public-holiday awareness
  • 3Task dependencies, milestones and progress the client can follow
  • 4Conflict checking across clients and opposing parties

Draft in seconds, from the matter you are already in

Merge templates pull straight from matter data — no copy-paste, no wrong client name in a letter. Build court books that paginate, index and bookmark themselves, and send forms clients can complete and sign without an account.

Money & trust

The accounting a practice is actually held to

Trust is a real ledger with a real balance, not a spreadsheet bolted on. Overdrawing a client ledger is refused in the model layer, not merely discouraged in the UI, and reconciliation is a monthly object with a variance you have to explain.

  • 1Trust ledger with per-matter balances
  • 2Monthly reconciliation with variance tracking
  • 3Statutory reminders that fire once, not repeatedly
  • 4Fee estimates against incurred WIP

Compliance, built in

The obligations are objects in the system, not reminders in your head

Generic practice software treats compliance as a note field. Here each obligation has a record, a due date, an evidence trail and someone answerable for it — because that is what you need when a regulator asks, not a folder of PDFs.

LPUL s174

Costs disclosure

Thresholds at $750 and $3,000, ex-GST and ex-disbursements, with the ongoing duty to re-disclose when an estimate materially changes.

Trust rules

Trust accounting

Per-matter ledgers, monthly reconciliation with variance, and an overdraw that is refused in the model layer rather than merely discouraged in the interface.

Tranche 2

AML/CTF & VOI

Risk assessment, verification of identity with evidence and expiry, and a register that shows what was checked, by whom, and when.

CPD Rule 13

CPD & certificates

The 10-unit year with one unit in each mandatory field, tracked per practitioner, alongside practising certificate and PI insurance expiry.

Claim Farming Act 2025

Referral safeguards

Non-cash rewards only, personal injury excluded by default, and recorded informed consent before any reward can be issued.

Supervision

File review & risk

Scheduled supervision of junior practitioners, a firm risk register scored on likelihood and impact, and audits with findings you can close out.

Who it suits

Shaped to your practice, not the other way round

Matter types, custom fields, numbering and workflows are configuration — so the system fits how you already work. These arrive ready to use.

The client's side

Clients stop ringing to ask where things are up to

The portal opens with what you need from them — identity to verify, documents to upload, a form to sign — then shows progress against the milestones of their matter. Counts of documents come last, because nobody logs in to count documents.

  • 1Outstanding actions ranked by urgency, with due dates
  • 2Matter progress the client can follow without calling
  • 3Secure messaging, invoices and document requests
  • 4A bookable public page, so new enquiries land in the system

The two questions that actually decide it

Nobody changes practice-management software because of a feature list. They change when they believe the move is survivable and the data is safe.

Moving in
1Export clients & matters from your systemCSV
2Map your columns — we confirm before writingDry run
3Keep your existing matter numbersConfigurable
4Import, then reconcile against your old totalsVerified

Your references come with you

The matter number format is yours to set, so files keep the references your team, your clients and your correspondence already use. Nothing gets renumbered because the software preferred it that way.

Held the way a firm has to hold it

Bank details, mail passwords and integration credentials are encrypted at rest, not merely masked in the interface. Every tenant's data is scoped by firm on every query, and leaving is an export rather than a negotiation.

Questions

The things firms ask before switching

Can we move our existing matters across?

Yes. There is a data import for clients and matters, and the matter number format is configurable so your existing references carry over rather than being renumbered. For larger migrations we will map your export columns with you before anything is written.

Does it actually do trust accounting, or just track invoices?

It is a real trust ledger — per-matter balances, receipts and disbursements, monthly reconciliation against the bank statement with a recorded variance, and statutory reminders. Withdrawing more than a matter holds is refused at the data layer, not just hidden in the interface.

Is our client data held in Australia?

Document storage is pluggable and you choose the backend, including Australian regions. The firm controls its own storage configuration rather than inheriting ours.

What happens when the rules change?

Thresholds and obligations are data, not hard-coded strings — costs disclosure thresholds, CPD requirements, deadline rules and public holidays are all configurable records. A rule change becomes an update to a row, not a wait for a release.

Do we need separate software for HR and payroll?

No. Employee records, leave with progressive NES accrual, timesheets and pay runs with payslips and ABA export are included. It calculates, records and exports; it does not lodge STP to the ATO, which requires ATO Digital Service Provider accreditation — we say so plainly rather than implying otherwise.

Is there a contract or lock-in?

Month to month. Your data is exportable to Excel across matters, time, expenses, invoices, clients and reports, so leaving is a download rather than a negotiation.

See it against your own matters

Open a trial, create a real matter, and watch the checklist, key dates and statutory deadlines appear with it. That is the part that either fits your practice or does not — and it takes about five minutes to find out.
